Dorothy Hartel, CMA-A

The “founder,” Dorothy Hartel, CMA-A, was instrumental in chartering the Maryland Society of Medical Assistants with the AAMA. On October 13, 1961, the charter was awarded at the National Convention in Reno, Nevada. Ms. Hartel has provided wisdom and insight. She was also awarded “Life-Member” status in the MSMA for her dedication and unwavering devotion to the medical assisting profession. She was recognized at the 1997 National Convention in Minneapolis as having “perfect attendance” at national meetings since becoming a member. Our state logo was designed by Ms. Hartel’s son. The MSMA established the Dorothy Hartel Scholarship Fund in 1995. Applications may be obtained from any state officer.
